The Resurrection of Screamin' Jay Hawkins

A Tribute to Screamin’ Jay Hawkins, one of rock’s true wild men, a prolific songwriter with a huge songbook that has rarely been heard outside of “I Put A Spell on You.

Screamin' Jay Hawkins, The Great Blues singer, crazy man, original shock-rock performer and the songwriter who penned the classic, “I Put A Spell on You,” died in 2000. But, that was then, this is now, and jazz/blues/man Mike Armando, who was Screamin’ Jay Hawkins’s guitarist in the 1970s, has recreated the legendary shows with a new group, appropriately called,The Resurrection of Screamin’ Jay Hawkins Band. This show is an authentic re-creation and people attending will think they're seeing Screamin’ Jay resurrected.

Performing the music of Screamin' Jay Hawkins well-known compositions like “Constipation Blues,” “Alligator Wine” and lesser-known nuggets like “Feast of the Mau Mau.” Although some dedicated fans might prefer “Armpit #6” or “(She Put The) Whammee (On Me).”

The creation of a time machine of one of rock’s true wild men. Let the resurrection begin. A show you will long remember. In fact, Screamin’ Jay may even pop out of a coffin.

The idea for the tribute band was inspired by Steve Bergsman’s biography of the singer called “I PUT A SPELL ON YOU: THE BIZARRE LIFE OF SCREAMIN’ JAY HAWKINS,” which is published by Feral House Publications. Steve Bergsman can be at some of the shows to sign books and speak about his new book release.
